Addiction providers partner to create clinic which will assist those with opioid addiction

9/30/2016

East Liverpool, Ohio: Family Recovery Center, located in Lisbon, and CommQuest Services, located in Canton, are excited to announce their intentions to open a Medication Assisted Recovery (MAR) Clinic in East Liverpool. This partnership will create the first MAR Clinic in Columbiana County and provide clients access to a full continuum of care for services which did not exist previously. CommQuest Services will provide on-site medical staff who will oversee the dispensing of medication, drug testing, and medical follow-up. Family Recovery Center will provide counseling and have the ability to refer clients to residential treatment and after-care services.

The clinic will dispense Buprenorphine, Methadone, and Vivitrol; drugs regulated by the Food and Drug Administration which reduce withdrawal symptoms for opioid-addicted individuals. The opioid reversal drug, Narcan, will also be dispensed at the clinic and be available for use by anyone in the community. In addition to receiving medication, clients on the program will receive on-site counseling, which is designed to get to the root of the individual’s addiction.

“Buprenorphine has been used for decades to treat people who are addicted to heroin and narcotic pain medicine. When taken as prescribed, it is safe and effective. It allows people to recover from their addiction and reclaim active and meaningful lives,” explained Eloise Traina, executive director of Family Recovery Center.

“Drug addiction has touched nearly every person in our community. We are in the midst of an epidemic of addiction and overdoses that is unprecedented. This partnership with CommQuest allows us to expand on the services available to our community and demonstrates Family Recovery Center’s commitment to make recovery a reality,” Traina said. “Treatment does work, and people do recover.”

CommQuest President & CEO, Keith Hochadel commented, “As the need for opioid treatment continues to expand by the day, we are truly excited to partner with such a well-respected organization in the community. While other agencies provide office-based opioid treatment, this clinic differs because it will be an accredited, evidence-based Opiate Treatment Program (OTP). As a provider that operates two of the states 22 OTP clinics, we believe our expertise and experience in this field will help us meet the demands of the community.”

The location of the clinic will be at 416 Jackson Street, in downtown East Liverpool. Over the last six months, the facility has been renovated to create clinical and medical offices. Currently, the location is seeing clients on an outpatient basis for individual and group counseling, until credentialing of the clinic can be completed by the Ohio Board of Pharmacy and the Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services.

Once opened, the program is expected to serve at least 75 clients within the first year whose care will be overseen by team of eight staff members consisting of clinicians, nurses, and a part-time medical director.
